Help Wanted: Technology Startups Seek Sales, Marketing and Developer Talent

You’ve seen the headlines: Some big technology companies, Wall Street firms and venture-backed startups suffered layoffs in 2022. Indeed, confirmed job loss plans extended from Amazon.com to Salesforce.com to Goldman Sachs.

Moreover, numerous forward-looking indicators suggest employment will continue to weaken, according to Capital Market Outlook, a newsletter from Merrill — a Bank of America company.

Still, employment levels in the overall technology sector remain relatively healthy. Among the data points to keep in mind: Silicon Valley's unemployment rate rose only slightly to 2.3% in November 2023, according to Joint Venture Silicon Valley. Despite the small uptick, that Silicon Valley unemployment rate remains far below comparative figures for California (4.0%) and the overall United States unemployment rate (3.4%).
